Light Therapy & Benefits of Light

Why light?

Because we're surrounded constantly by light, it's easy to take it for granted. Light streams photons to our bodies – tiny packets of energy with a number of beneficial effects, such as restoring balance to the system.

What is light therapy?

Light Emitting Diode (LED) light therapy is an outgrowth from the laser industry, but with the benefit of covering a greater surface area in a shorter period of time.  LED light therapy is a process by which energy is delivered by the cells for therapeutic benefits. The various energy wavelengths penetrate the skin to different depths and provide the energy cells need to activate increased circulation and stimulation to release Nitric Oxide. NASA's studies have shown that cells which have been exposed to LED light therapy have a 150% enhancement to their cellular metabolism, thereby accelerating repair and replenishment. There are volumes of scientific studies available on light therapy. The following is just a sample list of institutions that have conducted clinical studies on the effectiveness of LED Light Therapy over the last several decades:

  • National Cancer Institute

  • Mayo Clinic, Jeffrey Basford, MD

  • Stanford University, Kendric C. Smith

  • Massachusetts General Hospital, Wellman Labs

  • NASA, Dr. Harry T. Whelan

  • Marshall Space Flight Center

  • University of British Columbia, Vancouver, B.C.

  • University of Colorado, Dr. Thomas Burke, PhD
